What we run for sellers in Saharanpur

In short

  • Ecommerce services in Saharanpur help wood carvers and furniture workshops sell carved decor, boxes and furniture to Indian buyers on marketplaces and their own stores.
  • A woodcraft listing should name the wood, solid or veneer, the finish, and whether the carving was cut by hand or by machine.
  • Saharanpur Wood Craft is a registered geographical indication, so the name belongs only on work that meets the registration’s definition.
  • Carved furniture pays fees and freight on its packed size, so dimensions and volumetric weight belong in the price before any listing goes live.
  • Saharanpur workshops can work with us remotely from Gandhi Nagar, New Delhi, through user access, weekly reports and calls.

Our ecommerce services in Saharanpur are for wood carvers, furniture workshops and handicraft exporters who want Indian buyers to order carved pieces online, not only through wholesale and export orders. We run the accounts, listings and ads; carving, finishing and dispatch stay in Saharanpur.

Saharanpur is known for wood carving. Its workshops make carved furniture, screens and wall panels, boxes, trays and decorative pieces, often in sheesham and sometimes with brass inlay, for buyers abroad as well as shops across India.

The craft is a registered geographical indication as Saharanpur Wood Craft. The name tells a buyer where and how a piece was made, so it belongs only on work that meets the registration’s definition, and nowhere near a machine-cut copy.

The view on this page is an operator’s rather than an agency’s. We run brands of our own as well. For Saharanpur sellers, fees, freight and damage claims need attention alongside new orders.

We work from Gandhi Nagar, New Delhi, and nowhere else. Saharanpur workshops give us user access to their seller and ad accounts, read a weekly report and settle decisions with us on calls, so the timber, the tools and the workshop never have to move.

What Saharanpur’s workshops sell online

Saharanpur’s carved wood sells online in three broad groups: furniture, decor and gifts. Each group has its own buyers, fees and risks, and the same carving earns differently in each.

For the wider categories, read our guides to selling home furnishings online and selling festive gifts online; what follows is specific to carved wood from Saharanpur.

Which marketplaces suit Saharanpur woodcraft?

Small decor, boxes, trays and side tables sell on Amazon and Flipkart, where buyers search by object, wood and size. Large furniture is harder, because fees, freight and returns rise with size; made-to-order pieces suit a store of your own.

Bulky items follow their own rules on each marketplace: how they are delivered, who assembles them and what a return costs. Check the current terms for your category before listing anything large, and price each piece after fees on its packed size.

Meesho buyers decide on price and the first image. A light box or a set of coasters can carry a margin there; a carved table cannot, since moving it back after a return can cost more than the sale made.

The panel work itself, from listings and offers to damage claims and settlements, is what our marketplace account management in Saharanpur does each week.

Hand-carved or machine-cut: say which

Say how the carving was made, in the title and the details. Routers can cut patterns that look carved, and many pieces are machine-cut and hand-finished; buyers pay differently for each, and a hand-carved claim on routed work brings complaints.

Wood-carving gouges and chisels with pale wooden handles laid in a row beside a carver's mallet
Gouges and chisels laid out beside a carver’s mallet.
  • Hand-carved. Cut with chisels and gouges by a carver; tool marks and small variations show, and no two pieces match exactly.
  • Machine-cut, hand-finished. The pattern routed by machine, then cleaned and detailed by hand. Say exactly that.
  • Machine-cut. Routed or turned by machine with no handwork beyond sanding. A fair product, described fairly.
  • Inlay. Brass or other inlay named by its material, and whether it was set by hand.

Photographs settle the question better than words. Show the carving close in light from one side, where tool marks and depth show, and say that a hand-carved piece varies slightly from the photograph.

Call it hand-carved only if a hand held the chisel.

Sheesham, mango or veneer: naming the wood

Name the wood the piece is made of, and say whether it is solid timber or a veneer over a manufactured board. “Wooden” alone tells a buyer nothing, and “solid wood” on a veneered piece is a claim the first scratch disproves.

  • Solid wood. The species by name, sheesham, mango or another, as your timber supplier names it.
  • Veneer. “Sheesham veneer on engineered wood”, or on plywood or MDF, named for what is underneath.
  • Mixed. A solid frame with veneered panels, said in so many words.
  • Finish. Wax, oil, lacquer or polyurethane, and its sheen, because the finish decides care, colour and how the piece ages.
  • Weight. In kilograms; solid carved wood is heavy, and buyers read weight as a check on the wood.

Sheesham is known for its grain, and no two boards match, so say that colour and grain vary from the photograph. Wood also darkens or mellows with light over the years; a line on that saves an argument later.

Photographing carving so the depth shows

Carving is relief, and flat light flattens it. Photograph each piece in daylight from one side, so the cuts throw shadows and the depth reads on a phone screen, then add one shot in even light where the colour of the wood is true.

  • The whole piece, square on. Front, side and back, so the buyer sees the carving, the depth of the piece and how it is finished behind.
  • A detail at full size. One close shot of the carving at its deepest, with a coin or a fingertip for scale.
  • In a room. A table beside a sofa, a panel on a wall, a box on a desk, so size is judged against things the buyer owns.
  • Turning video. A few seconds of the piece rotating in side light shows relief better than any still.

Keep the wood’s colour honest. Wood photographed under warm bulbs looks redder than it is, and a buyer who expected a deep brown and received a lighter one sends it back. We write the shot list your photographer works to, piece by piece.

Wood moves: cracks, damp and care

Wood shrinks in dry air and swells in damp, and a piece made from timber that was not seasoned can crack after it reaches the buyer. Use seasoned timber, tell buyers how to care for the piece, and keep records that show it left whole.

  • Dry rooms. Heaters, air-conditioning and dry winters pull moisture from wood; keep pieces away from direct heat and strong sun.
  • Monsoon damp. Drawers and doors can swell and stick, and a line in the care note prepares the buyer.
  • Cleaning. A dry or barely damp cloth, no harsh cleaners, and wax or oil now and then for unlacquered finishes.
  • Carved detail. A soft brush for dust in the cuts, which a cloth cannot reach.

A crack reported after delivery is settled by evidence: photographs of the piece before packing, and of the damage when it is reported. Marketplaces decide those claims on what you can show.

Screens, panels and pieces that hang

Carved screens, jali panels, mirror frames and wall pieces are bought for a particular wall or corner, so the listing has to say how each one stands or hangs, what it weighs, and what the buyer needs to fix it safely.

  • Hanging. Hooks or brackets fitted or supplied, the weight the wall must take, and a note to use fixings suited to the wall.
  • Standing screens. The number of panels, whether they fold, and the height and width open and closed.
  • Jali panels. Thickness, the size of the openings, and whether the panel is finished on both sides.
  • Mirror frames. Whether the mirror is included, its size and how it is held, because glass changes how the piece must be packed.

Panels for interiors often come as custom sizes for a designer’s project, which suits a quotation on your own store better than a marketplace listing.

Furniture online: size, assembly and freight

Furniture sells online when the buyer can be sure it will fit through the door, stand in the room and arrive whole. Give every dimension, the packed size and weight, how much assembly the buyer does, and what tools it needs.

  • Dimensions. Height, width and depth of the piece, and of any part that has to pass through a door or a lift in one piece.
  • Assembly. Fully assembled, legs to fix, or flat-packed, with the fittings and a drawing in the box.
  • Weight. Of the piece and of the packed parcel, which decides the freight.
  • Delivery. Whether delivery is to the door or into the room, as your shipping partner offers it.

Freight follows size as well as weight, and a carved cabinet packed with care is large. Work out each piece’s volumetric weight before pricing it with our volumetric weight calculator, and keep pieces whose freight leaves no margin off the marketplaces.

Packing carved pieces so they arrive whole

Carving breaks at its edges: a petal, a leg, the corner of a fretwork screen. Pack so nothing presses on the carving and nothing can move, and photograph every piece and every packed parcel before it leaves your workshop.

  • Protect projections. Foam or card around carved edges, legs and finials, which take the knocks.
  • Corner guards and edge boards. On furniture and panels, so the outer carton takes the impact.
  • Wrap against damp. A moisture barrier inside the carton in the monsoon months.
  • Crate the large pieces. A wooden frame around cabinets and screens travelling far.

The packing itself stays with your staff; we write the guidance and chase the claim when a piece arrives broken.

Boxes, trays and gifts for the festive season

Carved boxes, trays, pen stands and photo frames sell as gifts around Diwali, at weddings and as corporate gifts at the year’s end, so they need listings, stock and delivery promises in place before the sale events in September and October.

  • Gift-ready listings. The box it comes in, gift wrapping where you offer it, and a photograph of the gift packed.
  • Corporate orders. Quantity, budget, engraving or a laser-cut logo, packing and delivery addresses, answered with a quotation rather than a listing.
  • Personalisation. A name engraved on a box needs a proof the buyer approves, and it cannot be resold if returned.
  • Sets. Coasters and trays sold in sets declare the number of pieces.

Wedding return gifts are ordered in quantity, often with a name or a date engraved, and their date cannot move. Take them by quotation, with the delivery date written on the order before any carving starts.

The Big Billion Days on Flipkart and the Great Indian Festival on Amazon usually come in September and October, and gift pieces need ratings before them. Bulk orders belong on your own store, where a quotation, a proof and a GST invoice all fit.

Export ranges and the domestic buyer

A workshop that makes for buyers abroad already knows finishing and packing. Selling at home asks three different things: designs you own, sizes Indian homes take, and retail packs with the declarations Indian law asks for.

  • Designs. A design made to an importer’s order often belongs to that importer; check your agreements before listing it.
  • Sizes. Indian flats take smaller tables, slimmer cabinets and lighter screens than many export ranges assume.
  • Finishes. Finishes chosen for a dry climate abroad may need rethinking for humid months at home.
  • Declarations. Packs sold at retail need Legal Metrology declarations such as MRP, net quantity and who made or packed the goods, and the listing shows the same, apart from the month and year.

Start the home range with the pieces that travel and sell most easily, then add furniture once listings, packing and claims run smoothly. A carved box teaches the account what a carved cabinet would cost to learn.

Advertising furniture and carved decor

Advertise carved pieces in a room, at a scale the buyer can judge, and close enough to see the cuts. Judge each campaign on orders kept after damage and returns, and keep large pieces out of ads where freight eats the margin.

  • Meta. Short videos of a carver at work, of light moving across a panel, and of a table in a lived-in room.
  • Google. Shopping for a storefront with wood, finish and dimensions in the feed, and search ads on the objects buyers name, from a carved wall panel to a sheesham side table.
  • Marketplace ads. Sponsored listings on boxes, trays and small furniture with ratings, before the festive weeks.

Our performance marketing services set those budgets from your margin, with freight and damage counted in it.

When a Saharanpur workshop needs a storefront

A Saharanpur workshop needs its own store when furniture and made-to-order pieces become a real part of its sales, or when interior designers, hotels and shops start asking for trade prices. Those buyers need conversations, quotations and deposits that a marketplace cannot hold.

  • Made to order. Size, wood and finish chosen on the page, with a deposit and a delivery date set by you.
  • Wood and finish samples. Sent on request, so a buyer approves the colour before the piece is made.
  • Trade accounts. Prices for designers and shops, with GST invoices carrying their GSTIN.
  • Delivery planning. Freight quoted by destination for large pieces, rather than one flat rate.

We build such stores on Shopify or WooCommerce and look after them afterwards; our D2C storefronts page has the detail, and every parcel still leaves from your workshop.

GST, HSN codes and quality rules

Each wooden product takes GST by its own HSN code, and a cabinet, a carved panel and a chopping board may sit under different ones. Settle every code and rate with your tax adviser; our own fee shows GST at 18% on a separate line.

Before listing, look up your product, furniture included, on the BIS list of products under compulsory certification in case a quality control order applies. Toys sold in India need BIS certification under the Toys (Quality Control) Order, so carved wooden toys bring their own rules.

A GSTIN is asked for at registration, and TCS comes off every payout. Registration rules are changing for small online sellers; check the current position with your adviser.

Working with us from Saharanpur

Our ecommerce services in Saharanpur work inside your own seller and ad accounts, with access you grant and can withdraw. You get a weekly written report, a call to settle what needs deciding, and a record of every change; the workshop runs as before.

  1. Read. Listings, wood and finish claims, damage claims, freight charges, returns and settlements, marketplace by marketplace.
  2. Rewrite. Wood, construction, finish and carving method stated plainly, and shot lists written for your photographer.
  3. Price. A margin sheet per piece, with fees and freight on its packed size.
  4. Run. Listings, festive deals, claims and ads run each week, and reported on orders kept and the margin left.

What we ask of you: access to the accounts, a sheet listing each piece’s wood, finish, dimensions, packed size and weight, your costs, and one person with authority over prices. Your own photographer shoots, to the lists we write.

Moradabad’s metal workshops and Jaipur’s handicraft trade face the same questions of material, method and packing; our pages for Moradabad sellers and Jaipur sellers cover them.

When you compare agencies for a Saharanpur business, ask how each would describe a machine-cut panel finished by hand, and which products it sells online itself.

Mistakes that cost Saharanpur sellers money

The costly mistakes in carved wood are claims about wood and handwork the piece cannot back, freight left out of the price, carving packed without protection, and timber that was not seasoned. Each surfaces first as a return reason or a damage claim.

  1. “Hand-carved” on routed work, or the GI name on a piece that does not qualify.
  2. “Solid wood” on veneer, or “sheesham” with no word on what is underneath.
  3. No packed dimensions, so freight on large pieces wipes out the margin.
  4. Carved edges packed bare, so petals and legs arrive broken.
  5. Unseasoned timber, so cracks appear after delivery.
  6. No care note, so damp drawers and dry-room cracks become returns.
  7. Gift stock that goes live once the sale events have started, with no ratings to stand on.
  8. Export designs listed without checking who owns them.

Questions

Questions Saharanpur workshops ask us

How do I sell wooden handicrafts online?
Begin with pieces that travel well, such as boxes, trays and wall decor, on Amazon and Flipkart, with your GSTIN, a business bank account and a short range. Each listing names the wood, solid or veneer, the finish and the carving method, with photographs that show grain and scale. Furniture and made-to-order work usually follow on a store of your own.
Can I call machine-carved furniture hand-carved?
No. Say machine-cut, or machine-cut and hand-finished where that is true, and keep hand-carved for work a carver cut with chisels. Buyers and marketplaces both act on claims a piece cannot back, and the GI name belongs only on work that meets its definition.
Is Saharanpur wood carving GI tagged?
Saharanpur Wood Craft is a registered geographical indication, tied to the region and the craft its definition describes. Put the name only on work that meets it, and ask your adviser where a piece is borderline. Describe everything else by its wood, method and use.
How do I stop wooden furniture cracking after delivery?
Use well-seasoned timber, finish every surface including the underside, and give buyers a care note on heat, sun and damp. Photograph each piece before packing so any later claim has evidence. Cracks that appear weeks after delivery usually trace back to the timber rather than the transit.
Which marketplace is good for selling furniture?
Amazon and Flipkart carry furniture searches, but each sets its own rules for bulky items, from delivery to returns, so check the current terms for your category first. Price every piece after fees on its packed size and weight. Large, carved and made-to-order pieces often do better on a store of your own.
How is shipping charged on wooden furniture?
Couriers usually bill whichever is greater: the scale weight, or a weight calculated from the carton’s length, width and height. A carved cabinet is mostly air and edges once packed, so the calculated figure tends to decide the charge. Measure each packed piece and work out both before setting a price.
How much do ecommerce services cost for a Saharanpur workshop?
The quote follows the scope: the marketplaces you sell on, the number of pieces and finishes, whether furniture or made-to-order work needs a store, and whether ads are included. We read your accounts and range first, then quote in writing with GST at 18% on its own line. Platform fees, freight and ad spend are paid by you directly.
Can I sell sheesham veneer furniture as sheesham wood?
Say what it is: sheesham veneer on engineered wood, plywood or MDF, with the base named. Solid sheesham is a different product at a different price, and buyers who expected solid wood return veneer. Marketplaces can act on listings whose material claims do not match the product.
