What we run for sellers in Solapur

In short

  • Ecommerce services in Solapur help chaddar and terry towel weavers list, price and advertise their goods for shoppers across India, not only for trade buyers.
  • Solapur Chaddar and Solapur Terry Towel are registered geographical indications, so those names go into a title only where the product is entitled to them.
  • A towel listing should give measured size, GSM, fibre and pile, and a chaddar listing should show both faces of the jacquard.
  • Chaddars are heavy for their price and towel sets bulky, so freight and returns decide the margin on a Solapur order more than commission does.
  • We work with Solapur sellers remotely from Gandhi Nagar, New Delhi; looms, stock, packing and dispatch stay in Solapur.

Our ecommerce services in Solapur are for the weavers and traders behind the two textiles that carry the city’s name, the jacquard chaddar and the terry towel, who want to sell them online under their own names as well as through wholesale buyers.

Both names are registered geographical indications: Solapur Chaddar and Solapur Terry Towel. Online, a place name helps a shopper trust what they cannot touch; it is also a legal name, to be used only where the product qualifies.

Solapur’s textile trade grew from its cotton mills and looms, and much of it sells wholesale, to traders who resell chaddars and towels across Maharashtra and the neighbouring states. Selling online adds a second route, one set at a time.

We are an operator, not an agency, and we run brands of our own as well. For Solapur sellers, fees, freight and returns decide the margin on chaddars and towel sets. We work with Solapur sellers remotely from Gandhi Nagar, New Delhi.

What do the GI names mean in Solapur?

A registered geographical indication ties a product’s name to where and how it is made. Solapur Chaddar and Solapur Terry Towel are both on the register of geographical indications, so the names belong to products that meet their registered descriptions.

The right to use a registered name rests with its registered proprietor and authorised users. If you weave in Solapur, ask your adviser whether your unit should register as an authorised user before the name appears in your titles.

  • Entitled to the name. Use it in the title and description exactly as registered, and keep the registration papers ready in case a marketplace or a buyer asks.
  • Not entitled, or not sure. Describe the product by what it is: a cotton jacquard chaddar, a two-ply terry bath towel. The description sells the cloth; a borrowed name only invites complaints.
  • Woven elsewhere. A towel or chaddar from another town is not a Solapur product, however close the style, and should never be sold as one.

The same discipline applies to fibre. Pure cotton means pure cotton; a blend is described by its proportions, as the yarn supplier states them, and the listing says so in the same words on every marketplace.

Which marketplaces suit chaddars and terry towels?

Amazon and Flipkart carry most searches for towels and bedsheets by size, colour and weight; Meesho suits value-priced towels and multipacks; Myntra suits a labelled bath range with styled photography. A storefront of your own comes once buyers ask for you by name.

  • Amazon and Flipkart. Shoppers type “cotton bath towel”, “jacquard double bedsheet” or “towel set of 4” and filter by size and colour. Variation listings that keep every colour of one towel together collect reviews faster than separate listings.
  • Meesho. Value towels, hand towel packs and lighter chaddars, chosen on the first image and the price. The per-order fee and return losses decide whether a cheap pack earns anything.
  • Myntra. A bath range under a label, with consistent photography and complete attributes. Myntra approves brands before they list, so it comes after your label has a look of its own.
  • Your own store. The place to tell the story of the loom and the town, sell matching sets, and take repeat orders from buyers who liked the first towel.

One search-led marketplace and a store usually serve a Solapur weaver better than five marketplaces run thinly. Our marketplace account management in Solapur covers the weekly work on each account.

Which Solapur lines should go online first?

Start narrow and deep: a few products you can keep in stock in every size and colour, rather than a whole catalogue in single pieces. A listing that runs out during a sale loses its place in search, and the reviews it gathered stop working.

  • A bath towel in three or four colours that sell, at one weight you can weave again exactly.
  • A hand or face towel pack, so the per-order fee is spread over several pieces.
  • One or two chaddar designs in single and double sizes, photographed on both faces.
  • A gift set that pairs towels with a chaddar, ready before the festive sale events.

Widen the range once the first listings have reviews and a return rate you understand. Designs that sell are woven again; designs that do not are cleared in the next sale event rather than restocked out of habit.

What should a terry towel listing say?

A terry towel listing should say how big the towel is, how heavy, what it is made of, how the pile is built and how it washes. Shoppers judge softness and absorbency from those details and from close-ups of the loops.

  • Type and size. Bath towel, hand towel, face towel or bath sheet, with the size measured in centimetres and inches after a wash.
  • GSM. The weight in grams per square metre, measured on finished towels, with plain words beside it: light and quick to dry, or heavy and absorbent.
  • Fibre and yarn. Cotton or a blend as the yarn supplier states it, and whether the pile yarn is single or two-ply, where you know it.
  • Border and pattern. A woven dobby or jacquard border, a printed design or a plain towel, said in those words.
  • Washing. Colour care for dark shades, and a note that new terry can shed lint in its first washes.

A towel set needs three facts in its listing: the count, the size of each piece and the colours as they ship. An assorted pack shows exactly the colours a buyer gets, not a sample of the range.

The pack itself carries the Legal Metrology declarations, with net quantity given as a number of pieces, and the listing repeats those declarations apart from the month and year.

Photographs should show the pile close up in daylight, the towel both folded and spread out with a scale reference, and the border in detail. Our catalogue and listing work turns your weaving sheets into these fields for each marketplace.

How should a Solapur chaddar be described online?

Describe a chaddar as the woven bed cover it is: its measured size, weight, fibre and weave, the pattern and border, and how it is meant to be used. A Solapur chaddar is usually heavier than a printed bedsheet, and the listing should say so.

Punched pattern cards hanging beside the warp threads of a loom, each card setting which threads lift
Punched cards that set a loom’s woven pattern.
  • Size. Measured length and width, and the bed it suits, single or double, with the measurements in the title as well as the description.
  • Both faces. A jacquard weave shows its pattern on both sides, often with the colours reversed. Photograph each face, so the buyer knows which side they are choosing.
  • Weight and feel. Say whether it is a thick, firm cover or a lighter sheet, and whether it suits warm nights or cooler ones.
  • Use. A bedsheet, a light cover, or both; whether pillow covers come with it; how it should be washed and dried.

Chaddar designs come and go with each weaving run. List each design as one parent listing with its colours as variations, so reviews stay together, and close designs you will not weave again before they run out in the middle of a sale.

Our page on how to sell home textiles online covers bed and bath listings, sets and returns for sellers across India.

Jacquard, powerloom or handloom: what may you claim?

Claim the loom the cloth came off and the way its pattern was made, nothing more. A woven jacquard pattern is part of the cloth; a printed copy of it is a print, and a chaddar woven on a powerloom is not handloom.

A power loom with a jacquard head above it.

Shoppers who pay for a woven pattern or a handloom piece and receive something else leave reviews that stay on the listing, and marketplaces can act on listings whose claims do not match the product. A plain, accurate title costs less than either.

Some claims need paper behind them. Call a towel organic only where a certificate covers it, quote GSM only from your own measurement, and keep anti-bacterial or quick-dry claims off the listing unless a test report supports them.

Why do towels and chaddars come back?

Towels and chaddars come back when what arrives differs from what the listing promised: thinner, smaller, a different shade, or shedding lint. A smaller share come back used or swapped, and those are claims to file rather than stock to resell.

  • Thinner than expected. The fix is an honest, measured GSM and a close-up of the pile, not a softer adjective.
  • Smaller than expected. Sizes measured after a wash, in centimetres and inches, beside a photograph with a scale reference.
  • Wrong shade. Daylight photographs of every colourway against the same ground, with no filters.
  • Wrong side. A chaddar bought for the face in the photograph and used the other way up; show both faces.
  • Used or swapped. Tamper-evident tags, a photograph of every packed order, and a claim filed inside the marketplace’s time limit.

We read return reasons every week, group them by design, and send each pattern to whoever can fix it: the listing, the photograph or the pack. A design that keeps coming back for one reason is a listing problem before it is a weaving one.

When do Solapur chaddars and towels sell?

Towels sell all year, and chaddars move most with cooler nights, weddings and festive gifting. Over both sit the marketplaces’ festive sale events before Diwali, and the local dates your buyers keep in Maharashtra and the neighbouring states.

WhenWhat movesWhat to plan
Makar Sankranti, JanuaryChaddars and towel sets as giftsGift sets live in December
Gudi Padwa and Ugadi, March or AprilNew linen for the home on an auspicious dayOffers set the week before, in two or three languages
Before DiwaliChaddar and towel sets for guests and giftsSale-event deals entered before the cut-off
Wedding months and cooler nightsHeavier chaddars, gift setsStock deep in double-bed sizes

In Solapur, Makar Sankranti also brings the Siddheshwar yatra, the city’s temple fair, and Gudi Padwa opens the Marathi new year, a day many families choose for new purchases. Buyers elsewhere keep their own dates, so plan by where the orders come from.

Ugadi, the new year in Karnataka, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, falls on the same day as Gudi Padwa, so one set of offers can serve buyers on both sides of the border, with creative in each language.

Gifting dates add smaller peaks. Our page on selling festive gifts online plans them month by month, including the last safe delivery date for each festival.

What does it cost to send a chaddar?

A chaddar is heavy for its price and a towel set bulky for its weight, so freight decides more of the margin here than in lighter textiles. Add commission and fees, packing, returns, sale discounts and ads, and price from what is left.

  • Weight and size. Couriers bill the higher of the actual and the volumetric weight. Fold a chaddar tight and press out the air before sealing; our volumetric weight calculator shows what a smaller pack saves.
  • Returns. A heavy item that comes back costs freight twice. Measured sizes and honest weights prevent more of these than discounts do.
  • Fees on cheap packs. A hand towel pack pays the same per-order fee as a bath set, so single cheap towels rarely earn.
  • TCS. Tax collected at source under GST is held from each marketplace payout; you can claim it, but it holds cash until you do.

We work out a margin for every towel and chaddar on every channel before it is priced or advertised, from your landed cost, the fees, freight both ways and your return history. Products that do not pay after freight stay off that channel.

Packing is part of the margin too. A towel set travels well in a sealed polybag; a heavy chaddar may need a carton to arrive clean and square. We write packing guidance for each product, and your team packs and ships as it does now.

Which languages should Solapur ads use?

Solapur sits close to Karnataka and Telangana, and Marathi, Kannada and Telugu are all spoken in the city. Your buyers may read any of them, so test creative in the language of each audience against English, rather than choosing one for everyone.

  • Meta lets you aim an ad at the language a person uses in the app, so a Kannada version can reach Kannada readers in Maharashtra as well as in Karnataka.
  • Google matches Search ads to the language they are written in, so a Marathi ad group needs ads written in Marathi.
  • Marketplace titles and attributes are written in English for the catalogue; the language work belongs in ads and on your own store.

On a store of your own, Marathi pages for the home page, the chaddar collection and the care guide can sit beside the English ones, with the font chosen so the pages still load quickly on a phone.

Have a fluent writer on your side write or check every version. We build the campaigns through our Google Ads and Meta Ads management and report each language separately, on orders kept after returns.

When does a Solapur weaver need a store?

When buyers start asking for you by name. A store is where the loom and the town can be explained at the length they deserve, and where a buyer who liked one towel can order the matching set without a marketplace commission.

  • Collections by use: bath, hand and face towels, chaddars by bed size, and gift sets.
  • Both faces of every chaddar, with a zoom that shows the weave.
  • Prepaid offers and COD rules: a cap on cash orders and a confirmation step, since a heavy parcel refused at the door costs freight twice.
  • Bulk enquiries from shops and institutions, through a form that asks for quantity, sizes and the delivery city.

Our D2C storefront service builds and runs these on Shopify or WooCommerce; your team keeps packing and shipping, through the shipping app you choose.

How we run Solapur accounts from Delhi

Everything runs remotely from Gandhi Nagar, New Delhi, through user access you grant on your seller and ad accounts, a weekly report, a call and a log of every change. Nobody needs to travel; confirm any sample review with us before posting it.

  1. Read. Your range, weights and sizes, cost sheets and current listings, with each product’s margin worked out after freight.
  2. Name. GI use settled with your adviser; titles, attributes and both-face photographs planned for every design.
  3. List. A short range on one or two marketplaces first, with Indian pack labels in place.
  4. Run. Prices, stock by design and colour, claims, settlements and ads, reported weekly on kept orders and margin.

From you we need account access, weaving sheets with measured sizes and GSM, cost sheets, and one person who decides prices and stock.

If you are comparing ecommerce agencies for a Solapur business, ask each one how it would list a chaddar whose two faces differ, and how it would price a single hand towel against a set.

Mistakes that cost Solapur sellers money

Most of the expensive mistakes come from selling a heavy, patterned product the way a light, plain one is sold: one photograph, a size name instead of a measurement, and a price set before freight.

  1. A GI name in the title without checking that the product is entitled to it.
  2. One face of a jacquard photographed, so the buyer meets the other side at home.
  3. GSM copied from the loom plan instead of measured on finished towels.
  4. Size names without measurements, so a double chaddar falls short on a wide bed.
  5. Chaddars priced before freight, which on a heavy parcel can take the whole margin.
  6. Single cheap towels listed alone, each paying a full per-order fee.
  7. Festive sets uploaded late, with no reviews when the sale events start.
  8. Returns never claimed when towels come back used or chaddars come back stained.

Karur, in Tamil Nadu, weaves kitchen, table and bed linen largely for export and meets many of the same buyers online; our page for Karur sellers covers that trade. To start, send us your range and channels through our contact page.

Questions

Questions Solapur sellers ask us

Can I sell Solapuri chaddars on Amazon and Flipkart?
Yes. List each chaddar with its measured size, weight, fibre and weave, and photograph both faces of the jacquard in daylight. Use the name Solapur Chaddar only if your product is entitled to the registered geographical indication; otherwise describe it as a cotton jacquard chaddar.
What is the GI tag on Solapur towels?
Solapur Terry Towel is a registered geographical indication, as is Solapur Chaddar. The right to use a registered name rests with its registered proprietor and authorised users, for products that meet the registered description. Ask your adviser whether your unit should register as an authorised user before the name goes into your titles.
What GSM should I mention for a terry towel?
Give the weight you measure on finished, washed towels, in grams per square metre, rather than a number from the weaving plan. Buyers read GSM as a guide to thickness and drying time, and a figure that flatters the towel turns into returns and poor reviews. Add a few plain words beside it: light and quick to dry, or heavy and absorbent.
Is Meesho good for selling towels?
For value-priced towels and multipacks, yes, because shoppers there choose on price and the first picture. The fee on each order, the pack and the returns decide whether a cheap towel earns anything, so price the pack rather than the piece. Heavier towels and chaddars with a story usually do better on Amazon, Flipkart or your own store.
Why do towels get returned online?
Mostly because a towel arrived thinner, smaller or a different shade from the listing, or shed lint in its first wash. Measured sizes, an honest GSM, daylight photographs and a note about lint prevent most of these. Towels that come back used need photographs of the packed order to support a claim.
Should I advertise in Marathi, Kannada or Telugu?
Test the language your buyers read: Marathi for Maharashtra, Kannada for Karnataka, Telugu for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, each against English. Meta lets you aim an ad at the language a person uses in the app, while Google matches Search ads to the language they are written in. Have a fluent writer on your side write or check every version.
How much do ecommerce services cost for a Solapur seller?
It depends on the channels, the number of designs, sizes and colours you list, and whether ads or a storefront are part of the work. We read your accounts and range first and quote a fixed scope, with GST at 18% added on its own line. Marketplace fees and ad spend are paid to the platforms, not to us.
Do you buy chaddars or towels from Solapur?
No. Our garments arm sources readymade garments in Delhi for its own buyers; for Solapur weavers and traders, our work is on the selling side. You keep the looms, the stock and the dispatch, and we run the accounts, listings and ads remotely.
