Private label clothing for Chennai brands
We are a private label clothing supplier for Chennai brands that want woven shirts, kurtas and festive lines under their own name, alongside the knits they buy in Tamil Nadu. Samples are raised in Delhi, partner units make the garments, and your transporter carries the lot south.

In short
- Chennai brands often buy knits from Tiruppur; private label from Delhi suits their woven shirts, kurtas and festive lines, made through partner units.
- A shirt sold with a veshti should have its colour approved on a lab dip against that veshti’s border, so the set matches in daylight.
- Chennai private label lots should land before Pongal or before Navaratri, after the Aadi sales, rather than into a month of discounts.
- The north-east monsoon brings heavy rain to Chennai from October to December, so Deepavali lots should travel early and packed for wet weather.
- Clothing supplied from Delhi to Tamil Nadu generally carries IGST on its own line, which a registered Chennai brand can claim as input tax credit.
As a private label clothing supplier for Chennai brands, we turn your woven shirts, kurtas and festive lines into finished lots under your label, sampled in Delhi and made by partner units. You approve from Chennai, and your transporter carries the finished lot south.
Chennai labels have knits close at hand, with Tiruppur in the same state and export units around the city that know production well. What a Chennai brand asks of a Delhi supplier is the rest of the range, made to the discipline its team expects.
What Chennai brands make through Delhi
Chennai brands use private label from Delhi for woven and ethnic lines: shirts, including shirts sold with veshtis, women’s kurtas and kurta sets, festive kurtas for men, and kidswear for Pongal and Deepavali. Knit basics usually stay with Tiruppur, and silk with Kanchipuram’s looms.

The city’s climate decides the fabric. Chennai is hot and humid for most of the year, so cotton, cotton-linen blends and light weaves carry the range, and fabric weights that suit a northern winter have no place on a Chennai rail.
Each style goes to a partner unit already making that construction, from a shirt’s collar to a kurta’s placket. If no unit we work with makes it well, we say so before a sample is cut, and the style may be better made nearer Chennai.
Matching a shirt to a veshti border
Approve a veshti-set shirt’s colour on a lab dip against the actual border, not a photograph of it. Veshti borders run from deep maroon to green and gold, and a shirt that matches on a phone screen can part company with its border in daylight.
Send us a length of the veshti or a border swatch with the brief. The lab dip is raised in Delhi against it through our sampling and sourcing work, sent to you in Chennai and approved in daylight before the shirting is dyed.
A veshti-set shirt also has its own fit, worn with a veshti at Pongal and weddings rather than with trousers at the office. Write length, sleeve and ease into the measurement chart, because the set sells as one outfit and returns as one.
The veshti itself usually comes from Tamil Nadu’s weavers; private label covers the shirt, its label and the packing that turns two pieces into a set. See men’s shirts and T-shirts for how a shirt is specified.
Timing lots around Pongal, Aadi and festivals
Time Chennai private label lots to land before a festival and after a discount month. Aadi, from mid-July to mid-August, is when Tamil Nadu’s textile shops run their sales, so a new lot arriving then launches straight into discounts.
| Window | What Chennai labels launch | Lot in Chennai by |
|---|---|---|
| Pongal, mid-January | Veshti-and-shirt sets, kurtas, kidswear | Before the new year |
| Thai weddings, mid-January to mid-February | Festive shirts, kurta sets, family wear | Before Pongal |
| Tamil New Year, mid-April | Summer cottons for the family | Late March |
| Aadi, mid-July to mid-August | Clearance of the last lot, no launch | — |
| Navaratri and Deepavali | Festive kurtas, shirts, kidswear | Before the festive sales |
Margazhi, from mid-December to mid-January, is the music and dance season and a quiet month for weddings, which makes it the month to have Thai wedding stock already on the rail rather than still in transit.
Use Aadi for what it does well: clearing the previous lot at a price floor agreed in advance, while the next lot is sampled for Navaratri.
Navaratri, Golu and the first festive launch
Navaratri is the first launch window after Aadi. Households that keep Golu, the display of dolls on stepped shelves, receive visitors every evening, and festive kurtas and children’s sets for those visits sell through the nine nights.
Plan one approved fit for Navaratri and Deepavali together, with festive fabrics and colours on separate lab dips, so a single development round serves both and the Deepavali lot is a repeat rather than a new style.
Children’s festive sets for Pongal and Golu
Children are dressed up at every Tamil festival, for Pongal mornings, Golu visits and Deepavali, and parents buy their sets alongside their own. Kurta sets and festive shirts for boys sit well in a Delhi private label range.
Size them by age band, name every piece in the set, and keep fastenings soft and easy; silk pattu pavadai for girls usually comes from Tamil Nadu’s own weavers rather than from private label. Our kidswear page covers sizing by age.
Deepavali and the north-east monsoon
Chennai gets most of its rain from the north-east monsoon, between October and December, which falls across Deepavali and the end of the festive sales. A Deepavali lot travelling from Delhi in those weeks should leave early, packed for wet weather.
Ask for polybags in the packing instructions, and agree transit time and insurance with your transporter before the bales leave Delhi. A cyclone warning on the coast can hold up roads, and a lot stuck on the way misses a date that will not move.
Deepavali in Tamil Nadu begins before dawn with an oil bath and new clothes, so festive stock has to be in customers’ hands the day before, not on the day; plan the lot’s arrival in Chennai with that in mind.
Fabrics and care for a humid city
Humidity shapes both the garment and the stock. Specify fabric weight as GSM, a shrinkage test on the washed sample and colour fastness for every dark shade, because a Chennai summer means frequent washing and little forgiveness.
Cotton stored damp spots and smells musty, so keep cartons off the floor once they reach Chennai, and ask for a moisture absorber in each carton if your stock will sit for weeks before it sells.
Care labels earn their place here: fibre content checked against the fabric used, and washing and drying advice that suits a humid climate, so the shirt that shrank is not the first review a new label collects.
Export-trained teams and our checks
Some Chennai brands are run by people who learned the trade in export units, and they expect a private label lot to arrive with export habits: a chart with tolerances, an inspection result by size and colour, and a counter sample kept by each side.

We work that way for Chennai labels. Each lot is checked against the approved pre-production sample for measurements, shade, workmanship, trims and labels, and you receive the result, with counts by size and colour and any pieces pulled out, before the lot leaves Delhi.
If your team inspects to an AQL plan, put the level and the defect grades in the brief, so the check in Delhi counts the same faults, the same way, as the one you would run in Chennai.
Trims follow the same export discipline: a trim card with one of each button, label and tag, approved with the sample, so the buttons on the shirts in the lot are the buttons you signed off.
Office shirts for a humid working city
Chennai’s offices, from the IT corridor along Old Mahabalipuram Road to the city’s factories and banks, wear shirts every working day in heat and humidity, and an office shirt line reorders steadily once its fit is right.
Specify it for that use: breathable cotton or cotton-linen, half sleeves as well as full, a collar that holds its shape without heavy fusing, and colours that survive a weekly wash. Keep the fit identical from lot to lot, measured against one chart.
Kurtas and kurta sets for Chennai
Women’s kurtas and kurta sets are the other half of many Chennai private label ranges, worn to work through the year and dressed up for Pongal and Deepavali. Cotton and cotton-linen in light grounds carry the everyday range; festive sets add colour and lining.
For a Chennai range, specify kurta length, side slits, sleeve and neckline per style, and say whether a set’s bottom is a churidar, straight pants or palazzos. Our page on women’s ethnic wear covers kurta set specifications in full.
Approvals and tax on a lot for Chennai
From Chennai, you approve in writing: each sample, lab dip and label proof arrives with photographs and a measurement sheet, and nobody needs to travel. Our only office is in Gandhi Nagar, New Delhi.
Goods moving from Delhi to Tamil Nadu are taxed as an inter-state supply: expect IGST on the invoice instead of CGST and SGST, recoverable as input tax credit by a registered Chennai label. Ask your advisor to confirm it for your business.
For the garments themselves, the GST rate follows each piece’s sale value: 5% up to ₹ 2,500 and 18% above, at the time of writing, from 22 Sep 2025. Every style’s rate is shown on the quotation, with freight to Chennai priced separately.
Labels and declarations for Chennai labels
Your woven label, care label and hangtag are made to your artwork and approved as proofs before bulk. A brand name in Tamil script on the woven label is your choice; keep the care and size details readable to every buyer.
Every pack in a Chennai lot needs its Legal Metrology declarations, including the MRP, the net quantity, the packer’s name and address and the month and year of manufacture; a marketplace listing must show them too, leaving out only the month and year.
How a Chennai label starts
Start with one line and one date: a reference shirt or kurta, a veshti border or swatch for colour, quantities by size and the Pongal or Deepavali you are aiming at. Our note on planning a first private label order covers what to decide first.
Use our contact page for a Chennai brief, and the rate card for indicative per-piece rates by line. For marketplace accounts and Tamil ad tests, our page on ecommerce services in Chennai has the detail; our private label clothing page describes each stage.
